Software for small businesses

Less juggling. More time for the work that pays.

Booking, quotes, invoices and job status scattered across apps, spreadsheets and texts? I build simple software that brings it together, shaped around how you already work.

Sound familiar?

When the business grows, the busywork grows faster

  • You type the same customer details into three different places.
  • Quotes live in a spreadsheet, invoices in another app, and job notes in your texts.
  • Customers call to ask "when are you coming?" because they can't check for themselves.
  • At the end of the month, it takes an evening to work out how the business actually did.

Each one costs a few minutes. Together, they cost you days.

A 20-minute call to find the real bottleneck

Discovery CallFree

You walk me through a normal week: where time goes, what gets dropped, which tools you rely on. I tell you honestly whether software will help, and if it will, which kind.

If it's a fit: a short written plan, the dates, and a fixed quote. If it isn't: a straight answer, and often a simpler fix with the tools you already pay for.

What I build

Three ways to get the busywork off your plate

  • Custom Web App

Software built around the way your business runs, used from any phone or computer, with nothing to install.

    Good for

You've outgrown spreadsheets and off-the-shelf apps that almost fit.

    What it can include

    • Booking and scheduling: customers pick a time, your crew sees the day's route
    • Quotes and estimates: build one on site from your price list and send it before you leave
    • Client portals: customers check status, approve work and download documents on their own
    • Job tracking: every job from first call to final invoice, in one list your whole team can see
  • Workflow Automation

I connect the tools you already use so information moves on its own, without retyping.

    Good for

Your tools work fine on their own, but they don't talk to each other.

    What it can include

    • Website forms that land in your CRM or contact list, already sorted
    • Invoices created and sent when a job is marked done
    • Appointment and payment reminders by text or email
    • Spreadsheets that update themselves from your other tools
  • Business Dashboard

One screen that shows how the business is doing today, from the tools you already use.

    Good for

You make decisions on gut feel because the numbers are spread out.

    What it can include

    • Sales and payments, by week and by month
    • Jobs booked, in progress and completed
    • New leads and where they came from
    • Works on your phone, so you can check it between jobs

After launch

Software that keeps working as your business changes

Software Care

A monthly plan that keeps your software healthy and lets it grow with you.

  • Fixes, security and software updates
  • Backups and monitoring, so problems get caught early
  • Small improvements from a shared list you can add to anytime
  • A short monthly summary of what changed and why

The standard

Built to the same standard as my websites

  • Fast

Screens open quickly, even on an older phone in a parking lot.

  • Easy to use

Clear screens your team can learn in an afternoon, accessible to the WCAG 2.2 AA standard.

  • Secure

Sign-in for the people you choose, each seeing only what they need, with secure connections and regular backups.

  • Tested and reviewed by me

Every screen is tested and personally reviewed before your team sees it.

  • Yours

The code, the data and every account belong to you.

My own products

I build and run software of my own, too

SteadyPocket is a personal-finance app I build and test as if it handles real money, because it connects to real bank accounts. Quickly Schedule helps small teams build the weekly schedule in minutes.

My own product · personal finance

SteadyPocket

Know what's safe to spend before payday.

An Android app that looks ahead instead of just showing your balance. It subtracts the bills due before your next paycheck, forecasts your low point weeks out, and warns you before a 0% promotion runs out.

Software I built and run

Screen recording of SteadyPocket on an Android phone
  1. 01 · Safe to spend

Bank apps show your balance, not the rent due next week. SteadyPocket subtracts upcoming bills and your own safety cushion, then shows what you can spend each day until payday.

    • Bills subtracted before payday: 4
    • Days until payday: 11
  2. 02 · Forecast

Switch between 30, 60 and 90 days to see your projected low point, and adjust your safety cushion as you go.

    • Forecast range: 30, 60 or 90 days
    • Low point: shown ahead of time
  3. 03 · Promo deadlines

Miss a store-card 0% deadline and the back interest lands all at once. SteadyPocket counts down each one and compares payoff plans so the riskiest balance goes first.

    • Promotions tracked: 3
    • Warning: 60 days ahead
  4. 04 · One view

Checking, store cards, retirement and digital wallets together, with a review queue, split transactions, and transfers kept out of your spending.

    • Account types in one view: 4
    • Bank sync: real time

Built like it handles money, because it does

  • 2,041 Android unit tests and 568 backend tests, plus end-to-end checks
  • An encrypted database on the phone, and bank connections through Plaid
  • Accessibility tested on a real device emulator

Questions

Before you ask

Will it work with the tools I already use?

Usually, yes. Google Sheets, QuickBooks, Square, Jobber, HubSpot and most other popular tools offer a way to connect. On the Discovery Call I check yours and tell you what's possible.

Do I need custom software, or would something off the shelf do?

Sometimes off the shelf is the right answer, and I'll say so. Custom software makes sense when you're bending your business around a tool, or paying for several tools to do one job.

Can my team use it on their phones?

Yes. It runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer, and you can add it to the home screen like an app. No app store needed.

How long does a build take?

It depends on the size, and you'll know before you commit: the written plan from the Discovery Call includes the dates. I'd rather launch a smaller first version quickly and grow it with you.

Is my business data safe?

Each person signs in and sees only what they need. Connections are secure, backups run regularly, and I'm happy to sign an NDA before you share anything.

Who owns the software?

You do, once the final invoice is paid: the code, the data and every account. Keep me on Software Care, or take a full handover. Your choice.

Not sure what you need yet?

That's what the Discovery Call is for. 20 minutes, free, and you'll leave with a clear next step, even if it isn't me.
